Orthodontic Treatment in Children
Ensuring the follow-up of the dental structure of children is one of the important details. It is extremely noteworthy due to the health of the permanent dentition that may occur in the future. Temporary milk teeth often cause them to be neglected and to be extracted early and thus cause negative results.
It is very important for your child’s milk teeth to remain in the mouth until the completion of the natural change periods, in terms of the development of the jaw bones and as it is the basis for a proper tooth closure.
Protective applications should be performed on the milk teeth by starting to brush with the support of the mother with the eruption of first milk teeth (3 years of age) in children. Caries can be prevented this way.
When Should Orthodontic Examination Be Performed in Children?
Ages 6-7 is a suitable range for orthodontic treatment as first permanent teeth start to erupt. In the examination performed at an early age, both closure problems that may occur in the teeth and skeletal disorders of the jaws can be diagnosed. Orthodontic problems may also occur as a result of tonsil, adenoid, mouth breathing or atypical (infancy) swallowing.
The main purpose in children’s orthodontics is the eliminate the factor that causes the orthodontic problem. Orthodontic disorders can be stopped with basic measures without wearing braces or mouthguard applications.
If suitable measures are taken in children to eliminate the cause of the problems, orthodontic and orthopedic problems may be corrected to a certain level.
