Orthodontic Treatment
The orthodontic treatment process lasts around 1.5-2 years on average. Braces should be checked by a dentist at certain intervals between 4-6 weeks. The stages of orthodontic treatment are as follows;
First Examination in Orthodontic Treatment
At the first appointment, the orthodontist performs a detailed orthodontic examination to determine whether the patient needs orthodontic treatment. The orthodontist gives detailed information about the orthodontic treatment process and the cost of orthodontic treatment cost.
Before the orthodontic treatment, it is important that you do not have any caries, gingivitis and bleeding in the mouth. Before orthodontic treatment, we recommend you to have fillings and tartar cleaning performed by your dentist. Remember, it is not possible to attach brackets to teeth of patients with gingival bleeding during brushing or those with bad oral hygiene.
Planning of Orthodontic Treatment
The orthodontist determines your eligibility for the orthodontic process, provides details and proceeds to orthodontic treatment planning stage. It is necessary to collect certain data during the planning phase.
- Anterior-posterior photographs of the mouth
- Anterior-posterior measurements of the jaw
- Lateral cephalometric, anterior-posterior head x-ray upon request of the physician
- Hand-wrist x-ray
Based on the data upon collection of the abovementioned records, the orthodontist will arrange an appointment for you and accelerate your orthodontic treatment process. You should support your orthodontist throughout the process.
Orthodontic Treatment Stage
The important question asked the orthodontist in orthodontic treatment is whether pain is felt. You will not feel extreme pain. It is possible that you may feel mild pain after the procedure.
The procedures performed during the Orthodontic Treatment Stage are as follows;
- If you are receiving bracket-assisted treatment, the treatment usually starts from the upper jaw. Lower jaw is processed after a few sessions.
- When orthodontic treatment is started, tubes or tapes are inserted to your one or more teeth based on the preference of the orthodontist and brackets are glued.
- By gluing the brackets, posterior braces are attached to the brackets with small ligature braces or elastic ligatures.
It means that all processes are performed and your orthodontic treatment has started. Your orthodontist will determine the next appointment date and inform you about the points you should pay attention to.
Orthodontic Treatment and After
Remember; orthodontic treatment is not just the stage and process mentioned above. It is also worth reminding that there is a passive treatment process called “reinforcement treatment” after the end of the treatment.
